National Park Paklenica is one of the must-see things in Zadar county.

Beautiful, pure nature, loud creek sounds, clean air, relaxing, and an easy two-hour walk to the mountain home make this an excellent and highly recommended place to visit.

The area of Velika and Mala Paklenica has been designated a national park in 1949 because of its unique natural features, the largest and best-preserved forest complex in Dalmatia, and its impressive geomorphologic structures.

The Paklenica National Park covers 95 km2 in the coastal slopes of South Velebit, under the highest mountain peaks Vaganski vrh (1752m) and Sveto brdo (1753m).

Canyons

It covers the area of torrent flows of Velika Paklenica and Mala Paklenica, and their distinctive canyons carved vertically into the south slopes of Velebit and the broader surrounding area.

The relatively small area has an abundance of geomorphological phenomena and forms, diverse flora and fauna, attractive landscapes and intact nature.

There are 150-200 km of hiking trails in the national park. The trails vary in length, difficulty level and a number of highlights along the way, but each has its charm. If you want to unwind in nature, take a light walk along the educational trail towards the Paklarić lookout.

For more exploration, hike for a couple of hours towards the mountain hut, Lugarnica or Manića peć cave.
